My Canvas Obsession

We had never hung anything on our walls before. Our first apartment did not allow us to poke holes in the walls at all, so we lived there for 2 years with bare, white walls. It killed me. I mean really KILLED me. I looked into all kinds of wall options that didn't require holes, but i never found anything I liked so the walls stayed white. But there isn't anything more torturous than making an interior designer live with bare walls so when we were looking to move I TRIPLE checked that we could make holes. Our second apartment allowed us to poke holes in the walls, (and make holes I did!) but we were only there 3 months before we got orders to move, so we never even bothered to look to even buy anything for the walls other than Emma's room.

Needless to say when we got to our current house, I was itching to hang things, ANYTHING, on the walls.

Anyways, I was given a budget by my dear husband strictly for decorating and designing, and I headed straight for IKEA. I bought curtains (another thing I had never had), baskets, storage cubes but mostly FRAMES. Everyone who came in my house for a while kinda giggled because the frames were hung on the walls, but they were empty. I was dying to arrange and hang them on the walls, but I had nothing to fill them with. After some convincing, Derek agreed to a photoshoot, and I went to work on coordinating clothes for all of us. The pictures turned out great, and I really love the way they look in all my IKEA frames.

I have slowly been collecting more and more frames, but my latest obsession is canvas. In the states, I never would have DREAMED that I would ever be able to afford buying blank canvases just to paint for fun. They are just too plain expensive. The sizes I would have been interested in for painting would have cost me over $30 each. No way, Jose......

BUT since being in Germany, I have decided Germans have life pretty well figured out. Amazing, FRESH beyond all belief food, incredible, family-oriented places to frequent and lets not forget about the dirt cheap canvases. I'm talkin' 20 euro at the most, and that's for canvases bigger than I am tall!

SO now I am a super easy woman to please, just give me a canvas and some free time, and I'm happy as a clam. I've already started hoarding them for when we go back to the states. I won't admit to how many I have stashed in my spare closet, but let's just say its more than 30. After typing that number, I realized I have a problem....

Here are a couple pictures of my latest ones. Like I said, Im obsessed. Canvas rocks.
